Anthony Housefather announces Government of Canada support of $150,000 for Elkimia

The Montreal-based company is continuing to expand , resulting in the creation and maintenance of ten jobs.

The Greater Montreal region has several dynamic businesses and organizations whose innovative ideas help create a strong local economic fabric. Some organizations have managed to adapt to the pandemic and thrive, while others have had to downsize. Today, as we plan for economic recovery, they need support more than ever to ensure the vitality of their communities. The Government of Canada is committed to supporting them in the pursuit of their activities and to fostering their growth and success.

With this in mind, the Member for Mount Royal and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Labor, Anthony Housefather, on behalf of the Honorable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for CED, announced today $ 150,000 in financial support to Elkimia Inc. Inspired by nature, this company develops and markets innovative products used in sun protection, cosmetics and textiles. Very recently, the company succeeded in developing a chemical process facilitating the scaling and industrialization of these products for different industrial applications.

This repayable contribution enabled it to start its production activities for more efficient active ingredients for UV protection, by having access to new manufacturing facilities on the NRC premises, and to acquire new production equipment.

The Government of Canada recognizes and supports innovative businesses and organizations that are sources of pride in their communities. Quebec’s economic recovery relies in particular on organizations that are firmly rooted in the regional economy. Innovation is an important contributor to growth in addition to being a key asset in rebuilding a stronger, more resilient and fairer economy for all.
